Türkiye’de anne veya babasıyla birlikte yaşayan ve 18 yaşından küçük olan yabancı çocuklar, geçerli bir ikamet iznine sahip olmaları halinde devlet okullarına kayıt yaptırabilirler.
Burada dikkat edilmesi gereken en önemli husus, çocuğa verilen Yabancı Kimlik Numarasının (YKN) aktif olmasıdır. Millî Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı okullar kayıt işlemlerini bu numara üzerinden gerçekleştirmektedir. YKN’nin aktif olmaması halinde okul yönetimleri kayıt işlemini tamamlayamaz.
Çocuklar geldikleri ülkede eğitim hayatına başlamışlarsa, öğrenim gördükleri okuldan aldıkları son karne veya not durum belgelerini tercüme ettirerek İl Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğüne sunmaları gerekebilir. Bu belgeler, öğrencinin Türkiye’de hangi sınıfa devam edeceğinin belirlenmesinde önemli rol oynar.

Foreign children under the age of 18 living with their mother or father in Türkiye can enroll in state schools if they have a valid residence permit.
The most important point to note here is that the Foreign Identification Number (YKN) assigned to the child must be active. Schools under the Ministry of National Education carry out their enrolment procedures via this number. If the YKN is not active, school administrations will be unable to complete the enrolment process.
If the children have started their education in their country of origin, they may need to have their latest school report or grade transcripts translated and submit them to the Provincial Directorate of National Education.
