Türkiye’de kalmaya devam etmek isteyen yabancı, pasaportunun süresi dolmadan önce Türkiye’deki resmî temsilciliği aracılığıyla pasaportunu yenilemeli ve ikamet izni süresi sona ermeden uzatma başvurusunda bulunmalıdır.
Ancak burada birçok yabancının bilmediği önemli bir uygulama bulunmaktadır; Yabancı yeni pasaportunu almış olsa bile, henüz bu pasaportla Türkiye’ye giriş- çıkış yapmamışsa, Göç İdaresi sistemi uzatma başvurusuna izin vermez. Çünkü yeni pasaportun giriş-çıkış kayıtları sistemde henüz yoktur.

How Can Foreign Nationals Apply for a Residence Permit or Extension Using Their New Passport?
For foreign nationals residing in Turkey on a residence permit, the validity of their residence permit expires 60 days before the expiry of their passport. Foreign nationals wishing to continue residing in Turkey must renew their passport through their country’s official representation in Turkey before it expires and apply for an extension of their residence permit before it expires.
However, there is an important practice here that many foreigners are unaware of; Even if a foreign national has obtained a new passport, if they have not yet entered or left Turkey using that passport, the Migration Directorate’s system will not permit an application for an extension. This is because the entry and exit records for the new passport are not yet in the system.
For this reason, it is of the utmost importance to determine the correct course of action to follow after renewing a passport.
